Vintage Motorcycle Rescue restores Japanese motorcycles to concourse standards so I knew I was in the right ball park when I came across their web site in 2013. In February 2014 this 1968 Honda CL450 K1 located near Fresno, CA caught my eye. I'd been looking for such a motorcycle for several months. Vintage Motorcycle Rescue was more than happy to make the trip down to give the 450 a thorough inspection and evaluate it for restoration. It passed the test but needed a lot of attention.

Following the purchase Don and Geoff went to work during the winter and spring cleaning, polishing, repairing, and restoring the motorcycle to a very high level. It was completely disassembled and the frame, tail light, battery box, skid plate, chain guard and other components painted black. New Dunlops and tubes were installed.

The gas tank and carbs were thoroughly cleaned - carbs adjusted and cables rerouted. New wheel bearings, brakes, and fork seals were installed and a replacement chain guard replaced the original broken guard. The swingarm wasn't functioning properly so it was disassembled and repaired using a tool Don special ordered from England.

A NOS speedo was sourced to replace the broken gauge. A broken bracket on the rear heat shield was repaired and both heat shields rechromed. NOS air filters were located and installed. Some electrical issues were corrected and a new Marai lithium battery installed to provide the spark. The faded Honda logo on the seat was repainted. There were numerous other details that Don and Geoff attended to over the course of restoration - too many to mention. But, that attention to detail resulted in a near immaculate motorcycle to be enjoyed for many years. I was very impressed with the high level of communication from Don during the course of restoration which led to confidence the 450 was in the best hands. The experience was terrific - VMR far exceeded my expectations for professionalism and high quality workmanship. That leaves me a very satisfied customer indeed!
